Software Update

It looks like the DNS information has replicated across parts of the Internet. I have applied all of the security related fixes that were necessary to apply before we can proceed with the major software upgrade.

Look for a site outage for up to 2 hours later tonight.

Server Move

We have moved servers and lost a couple of days worth of forum posts. Next week we will do a series of software upgrades to the site which will result in small amounts of downtime. Later in the week we will perform a major software upgrade which will result in the site being unavailable for a couple of hours. All of this will hopefully result in a quicker site and will include some new features that we will roll out in the future.

Hero Pen For Editing

Hero Pen For Editing

Like a lot of pen collectors I have terrible handwritting. I try and make it readable but there are times when even I can't read my tiny printing. I rarely write in script (cursive if you will) other than signing my name. I find that I can print faster.

Most of the material that I work on these days comes from the computer. I use journals to record notes and thoughts but only occassionally compose in longhand. I find longhand is easier for outlines and quick points though.

This weekend I edited an article for [more ...]

Still Alive

I haven't had a ton of time to play around with the site lately as other things have taken up my time.

Roger Wooten has been working on a new site. Once he gives me the o.k. to mention the name I will post it for everyone to check out. Roger knows more about Sheaffer pens and lamps than just about anyone I've run into.

Parker 51 - The Song

Jazz fans often think that the song Parker 51 is about Charlie Parker. The song is really about the Parker 51 pen.

Fun fact of the day.

Deep Throat

In honor of Mark Felt revealing himself yesterday I have loaded up another pen with permanent Noodler's black! I have nothing to hide!

Before the holiday I picked up some nice Eversharp 5th avenue pencils. The 5th avenue is a smart design that still looks classy. I've gotten a number of comments about them.

Diamond Medal and Good Service Pens

Diamond Medal and Good Service Pens

I picked up some nice documentation of these pens from the early 1900's. $3.98 would get you a nice large jade green model with a 14k nib.

The Good Service pens looked very similar to the Diamond Medal pens but came with "Warranted" 14k nibs and cost a couple of bucks less.

Waltham Pens

For the last week or so I have been carrying around a beautfil celluloid Waltham combo. The gold plating was thin and is basically gone but the pen writes like a dream. I've had some other low end pens from Wearever, EPENCO, and even Venus that while not the best looking pens can be wonderful writers.

Pens I'm carrying today

Pens I'm carrying today

I generally carry a three pen leather holder with me most days. Sometimes I will carry an additional two pen holder. The odds of me using all five of the pens in my pockets is generally pretty low. Today I kept it reasonable and opted for carrying three pens plus the pen in my spiral notebook.

In the spiral is a A&W Marquis which is a great cheap pen (see the article on cheap pens) and I'm using the A&W disposable cartridges since I have a lot of them on hand.

In my pocket today:

Aurora Ipsilon - [more ...]
