Sterling Kelt - Quick Take Review
by author name author awarded score: 60/100
Sterling Kelt - $7.99 each. Found at Target.
A chrome body with a German nib for $7.99! The initial excitement over this pen was quickly dashed upon removing it from the packaging. I can forgive that it was the most difficult box to open this side of one of the Christmas toys by son received; however, I can’t forgive a scratchy nib and poor design. The pen has a handsome chrome exterior but the design flaw is that there is a ridge of material that makes holding this pen normally quite uncomfortable. Additionally, the cap will not post. I wouldn’t give one of these to anyone. Avoid this pen.

I picked up one of these "Sterling Kelts" at a local Target store. The writing end on mine is etched Iridium Point Germany, but I saw another sample at Target which had a letter S with Germany etched below it. Other than that small difference, the nibs appeared identical. Like you said, the pen looks attractive with it's chrome finish, but it's construction appears crude when compared to other metal alloy-bodied pens and the China stamp on the cap does a good job of reminding you of it. Well....It's an $8.00 pen after all. I must have lucked out as my sample doesn't have a scratchy nib like yours (at least when compared to a cheapie like a Parker Reflex), but I also hate the fact that you can't place the cap on the pen's end. Loosing the cap on a fountain pen is never a good thing, but I guess it's designer never thought of that.
Wow! What a great find this site has been alrady. I was thinking of buying one of these for my 6 year old great-niece. She really is in love with my fountain pens. I am considering what pen to get her for her birthday. Somethig genuinely nice, something she could treasure her whole life, but not too expensive; and if it could be purple, that would be great. Today I happened to see one of these Kelt pens at Target and almost bought it. It is really attractive. But I thought I would research it a bit. If you can't post the cap, what use is it? I shan't be buying one. Thank you very much for having reviewed it.
What kind of refill does this take? My son got me one for Christmas and I can't figure out what kind of cartridge it is. I love fountain pens but I guess I'm not used to having such a variety of cartridges available!
Refill: The box says, in tiny tiny print "universal Eurpoean cartridge." I know I've seen cartridges like this but I didn't know that's what they were called. I'm looking for cartridges with sepia ink. Until I got these Sterlings with sepia cartridges, I didn't know they existed. I've been refilling old ones with a syringe. Sure would be nice (and neater) to find them ready made.
